Obsidian Notes

Connect your Obsidian vault to cross-reference daily notes with conversations.

What it does

Retrace reads your Obsidian daily notes and cross-references them with your conversation data. This lets you correlate what you wrote in your journal with what you were discussing at the time.

Set up the connection

  1. Open Retrace and go to Settings
  2. Click the Data Sources tab
  3. Click Obsidian
  4. Select your vault folder (or let Retrace auto-detect it)
  5. Choose which daily notes folder to watch (default: Daily Notes/)

What gets imported

  • Daily note content (markdown text)
  • Frontmatter metadata (dates, tags)
  • Timestamps from filenames or frontmatter

How it works

Retrace watches your daily notes folder for changes. When you create or edit a note, it's automatically indexed. The content is used to:

  • Correlate journal entries with conversations happening on the same day
  • Provide additional context during reflection sessions with Claude
  • Surface connections between your private thoughts and your conversations

Good to know

  • Read-only: Retrace never modifies your vault files
  • Frontmatter tags: Tags in your note frontmatter are used for cross-referencing with conversation topics
  • No export needed: Retrace reads directly from your vault folder

Privacy

  • Your notes stay on your machine
  • Retrace only reads the daily notes folder you specify
  • No vault data is sent anywhere
