Network Graph

Visualize your social network and watch relationships evolve over time.

What it does

The network graph is an interactive visualization of your relationships across all platforms. See who you talk to most, how your social circles overlap, and how connections have strengthened or faded over time.

How it works

Retrace calculates a tie strength score for each relationship based on:

  • Recency: How recently you've talked
  • Frequency: How often you talk
  • Reciprocity: Whether the conversation goes both ways
  • Platform diversity: People you talk to on multiple platforms score higher
  • DM vs. group ratio: Direct messages weight more than group chats

These scores determine the visual layout: stronger relationships are closer to the center, weaker ones drift to the edges.

Timelapse

The standout feature is the timelapse. Press play and watch your social network evolve week by week or month by month. People appear when you first connect, links thicken as relationships deepen, and connections fade when conversations slow down.

What data it uses

  • All imported conversations across every platform
  • Timestamps, sender/receiver info, message counts
  • Person records (linked across platforms)

What it produces

  • A force-directed graph with nodes (people) and edges (relationships)
  • Tie strength scores per relationship
  • A playable timeline showing network evolution

Privacy

  • All calculations happen locally
  • The graph is built entirely from data already on your machine
